The team has the lead in the western conference standings and they are already into the playoffs after clinching a spot. The team has 54 points and an extra game on everyone else and they have a three point lead over the LA Galaxy and a considerable lead over everyone else in the west.

The Union come into the game at sixth in the east standings and they are battling for a playoff spot right now with a number of teams in the eastern conference. The two at the top in DC United and Sporting Kansas City have solid leads and behind them are the New England Revolution and they have a lock on third place. After that it's up for grabs and New York is there with the Columbus Crew for now and the Union are the next team in the standings and they are just ahead of Toronto and Houston.

Philly comes into their first US Open Final looking to beat the Sounders and that would be an upset for the team and this makes it very intriguing for the matchup in the championship. The Sounders have a strong team and they have Clint Dempsey and DeAndre Yedlin leading the way and now they have the chance to get this cup and their ultimate goal this season is to win both the US Open Cup and MLS Cup.
