The Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Alex Smith have agreed on a four-year contract extension worth $68 million heading into the 2014 NFL season and this comes after KC traded for Smith from the San francisco 49ers last year for draft picks.
Smith and the Chiefs had been in negotiations for a while and the deal finally got done just a week before the season starts and now keeps Smith with the Chiefs long term. According to ESPN.com, the deal came together over the weekend and came as Smith had one year left on his deal at $7.5 million this season. Smith led the 49ers to the playoffs after years of struggles and then he was traded to Kansas City, where he also brought his team to the postseason.
Last year Smith had a career year and passed for 3,313 yards and 23 touchdowns as he helped bring a team back from a 2-14 record the previous season. The Chiefs had issues at the QB position for years and now Smith gives the team stability.
