The Washington Redskins could have made a trade with Kirk Cousins this offseason to the Cleveland Browns or Houston Texans, but the team opted to keep the backup, as head coach Jay Gruden realizes that RG3 will be in the line of fire this season and if he comes down with injuries, the team wants an experienced backup and that is why Cousins will likely remain behind Robert Griffin III this season and beyond.

According to ESPN.com, the Cleveland Browns offered a fourth round pick to the Redskins for Cousins ahead of drafting Johnny Manziel, but the Washington football team rejected it. The Redskins know that Griffin will be a target and the way he plays makes him also likely to get injured, although he has said that he is working on it. RG3 came out (sigh, again) against the so called "haters" on him and said he is going to prove everyone wrong, but he really should just concentrate on football.

Griffin is a great talent and he won rookie of the year because he had a great season and he should stop worrying about winning the social media battles. The team went just 3-13 last season and Kirk Cousins was forced to play a bunch and now he is potentially going to do that again. If all goes according to plan that will not be an issue, but the team likely wanted to keep Cousins rather than trade him since one: he is a very solid QB, and two: they would rather have him in if RG3 goes down over Colt McCoy.

The Redskins are trying to bounce back after what happened last year and now they have a new head coach in Jay Gruden and a new outlook on things. The team also added DeSean Jackson to the mix after he was released by the Eagles and now the offense could be even better. Alfred Morris had another strong season and now Pierre Garcon could also be better and he had a fantastic season last year as the main wideout, catching over 100 balls.

The Redskins and Giants ended at the bottom of the NFC East and now both teams think that they can rebound this season. Washington has the chance to be good once again and they are going to battle with the Cowboys and the Eagles after Philly won the division by beating Dallas in the final game of the season. Jobs could be on the line in NY and this is year one all over again in DC as Griffin tries to get back to the playoffs.
