The Chelsea Blues may have a new number one goalie, as Jose Mourinho has put his confidence behind Thibaut Courtois over Petr Cech after the opening match of the Premier League season, which was a 3-1 win against Burnley that Courtois was very impressive in.

According to Pro Soccer Talk, Mourinho was asked about Courtois and whether he would be the number one moving forward and he said that he would be doing that. Mourinho said that the choice was about the future and this comes after the 22 year old Courtois starred for the Belgian team in the World Cup and looked very impressive.

Courtois previously was on loan to Atletico Madrid while Cech was the top goalie and now he is back. Courtois looks to be the top man at Stamford Bridge following the win on the road at Turf Moor and that is big for Chelsea as they move on this season in the EPL and Champions League. Cech has plenty of hardware to his name and he also is getting up there in age.

Courtois is athletic and has a big build and he had made 154 appearances with Madrid and now he has the chance to get play for Chelsea. Cech may not like the decision, but so far Mourinho has the results on his side and until Courtois falters, it likely will stay that way.

Mourinho from BBC Sport:

"Obviously a goalkeeper is not a player you are changing match after match, you must give a bit of stability, but this is about performances," Mourinho said. "Ten years ago I had a very difficult decision to make when I had Carlo Cudicini giving fantastic performances in Chelsea's goal for many years. I made a decision for Petr in 2004-05 because I had in my hands a keeper who I thought could be in Chelsea's goal for many years. This situation is similar. We have to think about the future of the club and I made a decision to give the goal to Courtois."
