The Buffalo Bills may look at a CJ Spiller trade this year if the sides cannot agree on a contract extension and teams like the Oakland Raiders, NY Giants, San Francisco 49ers or Philadelphia Eagles could be potential options for a deal, as those teams have offenses where Spiller could really make an impact with his speed and big play ability.

According to NFL.com, the Bills have not been shopping Spiller yet, but trade rumors have come up since Spiller and the team has not been able to agree on a contract. Spiller is heading into free agency and NFL.com reported earlier in the offseason that the Eagles were looking at the possibility of trading for Spiller before adding Darren Sproles. The Bills added Bryce Brown in a trade this offseason and also extended Fred Jackson and some in the media have speculated that those moves were made as insurance in case the team has to move Spiller.

NFL.com also reports that the team looked at trading up in the draft to get Carlos Hyde, but that did not end up working out either. The Raiders may need some help if Darren McFadden or MJD go down, while the Giants lost David Wilson and could be interested in replacing him with Spiller down the line, as the two players have similar skills. The Niners are set at RB and so are the Eagles, but they have offenses that would fit Spiller and could be an option if injuries come up.

Spiller comes into the season after having a down year and while he was still very productive, it was not as good as the previous season. Spiller has plenty of speed and explosive ability, but he was not able to do that as much last year and his yards per carry, receptions and yards all decreased along with his touchdowns from the previous season into what he did last season. The Bills were one of the top rushing teams in the NFL last year and now Doug Marrone is looking to do that once again.

Spiller had a fantastic season in 2012, rushing for a career high 1244 yards and six touchdowns and he also put up great numbers out of the backfield. Spiller had 43 catches for 459 yards that season and he decreased to 33 catches for 185 yards last season and was down to 933 rushing yards from the season before. Spiller still can be a major star with the Bills, but the team has a decision to make and if they think they can't sign him to another deal, a trade could be a better option.

Spiller has been one of the most explosive players in the league over the past two seasons and now that he is getting to the point where he needs a new contract, the Bills have a tough decision to make. The Bills love what Spiller brings to the offense, but if he asks for too much money, there is a chance they could pull off the trade before the season starts or before the deadline during the season.
