MLB Wild Card Standings American League and National Records Into August 4

The MLB Wild Card standings for 2014 are tight in both leagues and as the playoffs get closer, the races in the American League and National League only will get more dramatic and the division winners likely will be thrilled to avoid the one-game playoff and right now the AL and NL has the LA Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals.

The American League wild card standings has the Angels basically in the playoffs with the first spot, while the Toronto Blue Jays are in the second spot. The Jays have been hot lately and are 9-1 in their last 10 games, while the Angels have been 5-5 and the Mariners are just 4-6 and they are in the mix as the first team chasing the spots. The New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals are next in the standings ahead of the Cleveland Indians.

The American League also has the Indians and Rays at six games back, but Tampa Bay just traded David Price to the Detroit Tigers, so they likely are out of things now. The White Sox are the last team hanging on at 6.5 games, while the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox are out of it.

The National League wild card has the San Francisco Giants, St Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves at the top of the scrum, while the Pittsburgh Pirates are very close as well. The Cincinnati Reds and Miami Marlins are also in the mix if they pick it up, while the NY Mets are 5.5 games out and still alive, but it's the Mets, so probably not.

The division leaders in the AL and NL are the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Oakland Athletics, Wahsington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers and LA Dodgers heading into the beginning of August.
