Safety's Calvin Pryor #35 and Chris Poston #40 of the New York Jets talk during the first day of rookie minicamp on May 16, 2014 in Florham Park, New Jersey. "

The NY Jets are in training camp in Cortland with the usual bravado and now rookie Calvin Pryor will be out of action for a little while, as the first round draft pick suffered a concussion in the first contact practice of the summer and he now will need to be cleared before he can get back out onto the field.

According to ESPN New York, Pryor was injured during the first contact drill of the summer and he was working blocking on a kickoff return, as he likely would be playing some special teams this season to start things off. Pryor comes in with high expectations after being taken with the number 18 overall pick out of Louisville and he comes in as a tough hitter with a physical style. Rex Ryan said that the play happened when Pryor and the returner knocked into each other and he previously has not any head injuries while playing in college.

Pryor was expected to start this season and was working with the first team defense in training camp and now he could be a bit behind with the injury. The Jets are expecting a lot from their rookies this season and that also includes tight end Jace Amaro, who was taken in the second round out of Texas Tech. Amaro was a record setting tight end last season and he was injured in drills after banging up his right knee, but Rex Ryan said it was not a concern.

Pryor is coming in with a good reputation and he is known for his hard hits so in a way it's ironic that he was injured after colliding with a returner on a kickoff return. Pryor was unable to finish practice after getting hurt and it was described as a head injury and now he could be out for a little bit while he recovers through the concussion protocol. Dee Milliner is saying that he is the best cornerback in the NFL, while Rex Ryan is back making predictions and while that could be part of what the Jets want to project, they should work on getting into the top part of the division first before making proclamations.

The Jets went 8-8 last season and it looks like Geno Smith will be the starter unless he falters in training camp and the preseason, while Michael Vick is there if anything goes down. Last season the team ranked 31st in passing yards per game and sixth in rushing yards per game and that should be even better this year of Chris Johnson can remain healthy.
