The Seattle Mariners and LA Angels are playing on Saturday night in Game 2 of their series out of the all star break and the teams are both in playoff position in the American League and Felix Hernandez is matching up with Garrett Richards in the game as the M's try and rebound from a 16-inning walk off win by the Angels.
Hernandez is having the best season of his career and he is coming off starting the All-Star game, while Richards was probably the top snub and the first player left off the team. Richards and Hernandez are both 11-2, while Felix has a much lower ERA and he is on a fantastic streak right now of two runs and seven innings in 11 straight starts and now he is looking to get his first win of the second half of the season after the AL won the all star game.
The Angels have been one of the best teams in baseball over the past two months and the Mariners have played well along with LA and they both are in playoff contention. Seattle comes in at 2.5 games up in the wild card race but they could lose some ground with another loss after falling in 16 innings to the Angels. Felix has been pitching great all season and he will be throwing to Jesus Sucre, as Mike Zunino caught the entire game for the M's on Friday night.
Robinson Cano is leading the AL in hitting and he has been great since signing for the Mariners and Felix has the chance to give the team their first win out of the break. Hernandez has been pitching great and the Angels are a tough lineup with Mike Trout and Albert Pujols and he comes in with a 4-0 record in 10 starts this season with a 2.07 ERA and he is looking to keep things going against the Angels. The Mariners have not been to the playoffs in 13 years and they are trying to hang on and this comes after LA traded a nice package for Huston Street from the Padres.
