The New York Giants are opening training camp next week since they play the HOF game soon and as Eli Manning tries to have a bounce back year, he could be without Chris Snee for the 2014 season, as reports say that he may not be able to play this year after dealing with numerous injuries over the past couple seasons.
Last year the Giants offensive line was a complete mess and they need Snee to be back healthy, but it looks like that is a major question right now. According to Pro Football Talk, Snee is reporting to training camp on time, but the son in law of coach Tom Coughlin could be out of action after dealing with hip surgery and an elbow issue that is still a point of concern. The Giants had a rough year by starting 0-6 and they eventually rebounded to end the season 7-9 and now they will try and bounce back after winning the Super Bowl two years ago. The team made a number of moves in free agency and they signed Geoff Schwartz and John Jerry for the line and they also added a number of players in the secondary. The team is hoping that Odell Beckham can take over for Hakeem Nicks and they are also expecting Rashad Jennings to be a strong running back.
Last season the team ranked 29th in rushing yards per game and now Jennings comes in with Peyton Hillis to get that better and Jennings led his team in rushing last season. Manning helped the team to a 19th ranked passing offense and that needs to be better as well and both categories should improve under new coordinator Ben McAdoo. It all could fall apart if the offensive line does and without Snee, the team will need to rely hard on rookie Justin Pugh and others to step up.
The defense was solid while ranking 10th in passing yards allowed and 14th in rushing and adding Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie along with Walter Thurmond should shore up the secondary. The Giants open the preseason early with the hall of fame game against the Bills and that leads into a tough slate with the Steelers, Colts, Jets and Patriots, which is always a fun game. The schedule opens with some tough games, including MNF against the Detroit Lions before returning home against the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans.
