Jun 18, 2014 12:51 PM EDT

The Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals are playing live on the MLB schedule on Wednesday and the AL central division matchup starts at 1:08 pm ET and comes streaming live from Comerica Park as Drew Smyly and Jeremy Guthrie come in for the divisional game as KC is now in first place after a blistering stretch of play.

The Royals are coming in with nine straight wins and they are hoping to make it 10 and that would be the longest streak the team has had in two decades. The Royals have been hitting the ball well as of late and during this stretch they are putting up some big numbers and some of that came against former Cy Young winners Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer and now the team is hoping to add another win to their total as they push it in the division.

The Royals finished over .500 last season for the first time in a decade and they now have the chance to stay atop the division if they can keep up this pace. The Tigers started off the season hot, but they have slowed down considerably and their two Cy Young stars gave up over 20 runs in the two games, including 11 runs on Tuesday and now the team is trying to keep up the stretch heading into the game on Thursday, which has Danny Duffy and Anibal Sanchez on the mound for the teams.

The Royals have 38 wins this season and they are two up on the Tigers in the win column and they come in ranked 14th in the league in runs scored. The Royals are fifth in the league in batting average and 19th in on base percentage and they are also 22nd in slugging percentage. The team is 14th in ERA and seventh in quality starts and they are also 16th in WHIP and 17th in on base percentage.

The Tigers are now second in the division and they are second in the league in batting average and 12th in runs scored and they are also fifth in on base and second in slugging percentage. The pitching has been up and down and now they are 25th in the league in ERA and 14th in quality starts and 24th in BAA. The Tigers can get back into things with wins in the next two games against the Royals.
