The World Cup 2014 Group standings are starting to take shape and the points leaders and results have some surprising teams on top of the groups along with favorites in Brazil, including the host nation atop Group A with Mexico, while the Netherlands and Chile are leading Group with three points and in Group C it's Colombia, while Group D has Costa Rica and Italy atop England and Uruguay and on Sunday and Monday there will be more leaders and results, with the United States, Argentina and Germany as some of the teams in action.

The first match of the tournament saw Brazil win over Croatia in controversial fashion, as they gave up and own goal before Neymar tied it and then after that a controversial penalty was called that helped Brazil get the lead. Fred flopped at least that's what many felt nd Neymar scored on the kick to get the lead and now the team has the lead in Group A with Mexico. El Tri had a tough performance and it wasn't their fault, as the bad officiating continued and they had two goals waved off that should not have been and they ended up winning over Cameroon and now those two teams have the inside track to the next round.

The Mexican side was not happy with the calls, but they made it through and now they are a force to be reckoned with in the group. Brazil and Mexico play next and now that is a massive match, as whoever wins that is nearly guaranteed to advance to the knockout stage while the other team will need to rebound. Brazil has had the benefit of some calls and that comes with being the host nation and they will play their next two games knowing they have the crowd and some luck on their side and they are in the lead with three goals in the group as well.

The Netherlands started off with a big win against Spain and they scored the most goals of anyone with five and one of those came on an amazing goal from Robin Van Persie. The team has played very well and Spain now has to find a way to bounce back, as Chile and the Dutch are now in the lead of that group. Chile is a wildcard in this group and they could advance after beating Australia, while the Spanish team now has to find a way back after their big loss and that came after they opened with a goal and now they have to rebound. The Spanish team is the defending champions and they have to find a way to rebound now that they are in the bottom of their group.

The games on Saturday were big and now Italy is in the lead in their group after winning over England, while Costa Rica played well and won over Uruguay, who played without Luis Suarez. The English started off well and now they have to rebound next against Uruguay to get out the group and they lost their opening match for the first time since 86 and they are looking to advance out for the 11th straight time.
