Oakland Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin (14) throws a pass while dealing with pressure against the Houston Texans during the first half at Reliant Stadium in 2013 and that was his first ever start now he could be trade bait for former coach Bill O’Brien and could reunite after playing for him at Penn State with a trade to Texas."

The Oakland Raiders are heading into training camp with high expectations after signing a number of free agents and the quarterback situation has Matt McGloin as potential trade bait for the Houston Texans, since the team traded for Matt Schaub and drafted Derek Carr this offseason and that could lead to a trade for a potential reunion for McGloin with his former head coach from Penn State in Bill O'Brien, as the Texans have rookie Tom Savage and Ryan Fitzpatrick coming in to compete as the starter and may want an upgrade.

McGloin is no Tom Brady, but he showed last season that he could handle being a starting quarterback in the NFL and he could serve as a bridge option for the Texans as they get their situation under control. Savage was drafted in the fourth round and O'Brien also has Fitzpatrick, TJ Yates and Case Keenum coming in to compete at the position. The Texans are dealing with the Andre Johnson trade rumors right now and this could be an option if they want to deal him, but clearly they are hoping it doesn't come to that. The Raiders have Derek Carr coming in as a rookie and head coach Dennis Allen has made it clear that Matt Schaub is the starter and that leaves McGloin and Carr to battle it out.

The Raiders loved what they saw in McGloin last year and that is why they signed him as an undrafted free agent and he ended up outlasting draft pick Tyler Wilson and acquired QB via trade Matt Flynn and that's saying a lot and now he could be an option here. McGloin split time with Terrelle Pryor last year and he outlasted him as well and now has the chance to try and win the backup job. The Raiders signed a number of free agents this offseason and they are looking to bounce back after going 4-12.

The Texans likely do not want to give up much and while Bill O'Brien likes what he has seen in rookie Tom Savage and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, he may enjoy reuniting with his former Penn State QB. McGloin has shown that he can win in this league, beating the Texans last year and he could be a bridge QB option until Savage is ready or the team grabs someone else. Last season McGloin played in seven games and started six and ended up with 1,547 yards and eight TDs with eight picks and he could be a solid option for the Texans for this season.

The Raiders went 4-12 last season and ranked 25th in passing yards per game and they are hoping the addition of James Jones helps that. The team added Khalil Mack and he could be a force on defense and they need to improve that as well. The team ended with a 1-5 record in the division and they have to deal with playing the Broncos and other teams and now with Justin Tuck and many vets in the fold, the team is expecting improvement.
