Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Dion Jordan Trade Option As Dallas Cowboys, NY Jets, New Orleans Saints Interested?

Jun 10, 2014 04:23 PM EDT

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming into 2014 with high expectations and the team could still pull off a trade for Dion Jordan heading into the summer if they feel that the Dolphins are willing to make a move and teams like the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, NY Jets, Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts and Titans all could be interested in trading with Miami ahead of training camp.

The Cowboys and Eagles each could use some more depth on the defensive line and Dallas is already dealing with a major injury heading into the season after losing Sean Lee to an ACL tear once again. According to ESPN.com blogger James Walker, the Dolphins are not shopping Jordan currently, but it is something they thought about earlier in the offseason and if a team made a good enough offer, they likely would take it at this point. Jordan has a huge upside after being the third overall pick

According to NFL.com, Jordan is among a  number of players that could get moved over the summer, including Christian Ponder, Ryan Mallett and Brandon Flowers. The article writes that the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, NY Jets, Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans could be potential destinations for Jordan if the Dolphins want to deal. The Cowboys defense was a mess last season and they ranked 30th in passing yards allowed per game and 27th in rushing yards allowed. The team lost DeMarcus Ware in the offseason and bringing in Jordan could add an athletic rusher to the mix and that would be big after losing Lee to an injury.

The Raiders had the number three pick in the draft in 2013 and they traded back with the Miami Dolphins so they could pick him and he was a bit of a disappointment as a rookie. The Dolphins have a new GM in Dennis Hickey who did not draft Jordan and that is one reason some speculated as to why he was being shopped this offseason. The Dolphins have a number of issues heading into the season and they could try and use Jordan to address some of that with depth at certain positions. The Dolphins likely will not make a trade this late into the season, but NFL.com writes that Jordan still could move.

Last season the Eagles ranked 10th in the league in rushing yards allowed per game and 32nd in passing yards per game and that was a big issue for the team heading into the playoffs. Adding Jordan will not directly help the secondary stop teams from passing, but if the team traded for him that would be another solid pass rusher with first round pick Marcus Smith and that could be huge for Chip Kelly. While at Oregon Jordan was a defensive force and reuniting with Kelly could be the key to turning around his career.

This summer teams are heading into training camp with the Super Bowl in mind and some moves that happen now could end up being huge for the playoffs in 2014. The Giants, Vikings and Raiders are all looking to make the playoffs and camp this year will be very important with so many new players coming in.
