May 28, 2014 03:30 PM EDT

The Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants are playing on the MLB schedule on Wednesday and the game from AT&T Park in Cali starts up at 3:45 pm ET for the afternoon matchup and it will be streaming from MLB.com and has Edwin Jackson matching up with Tim Lincecum for the series finale against the Cubbies.

The Giants come into the game first in the NL West and they have been playing very well this season after missing the playoffs last year and they got a 4-0 victory against the Cubs after a great game from Tim Hudson. The Giants have gotten some great pitching from their rotation this season and they start up a series next on Thursday with the Cardinals and that will be on the road after playing at home against the Cubs.

The team comes in with a 33-19 record and they have been one of the top clubs in the NL this season and they are hitting very well too, ranking 11th in the league in runs scored, 20th in batting average and 22nd in on base percentage and the team is also 11th in slugging. The pitching has been very good and they are ranked in the top 10 in WHIP and BAA and the team is also third in Era overall and 11th in quality starts. Hudson has been pitching very well this season and now the team has built a nice lead over the Dodgers and everyone else in the NL West after nice starts from LA and Colorado in the division.

The Cubs once again are terrible, but they have some young players that are starting to distinguish themselves and it will be a long road as Chicago tries to get back to respectability. The Cubs come into the game fifth in the NL Central and they likely will remain there, as the Brewers are in first, while the Cardinals, Reds and Pirates all made the playoffs last season. The Cards have been a mess on offense while the Reds and Pirates have struggled, but they are all expected to turn things around.

The Cubs come in after the shutout by the Giants and they open a series on the road next against the Brewers and Travis Wood will be on the mound for the team on Friday. The team is ranked near the bottom in all offensive categories, including being 25th in runs, 29th in batting average, 28th in on base percentage and 26th in slugging. The pitching has been solid, as the team is ranked ninth in ERA, 10th in WHIP and sixth in BAA and that is mostly due to the stellar pitching from Jeff Samardzija this season.
