Percy Harvin of the Minnesota Vikings is demanding a trade, both ESPN and the Associated Press report.
"I just put it this way," said Harvin on Tuesday. "There's a lot of different things that have to be sorted out, (I) just haven't been really happy lately. We've got a couple of things to work on. I'm here in the classroom. We'll go from there."
But as of Wednesday it appears that Harvin is not willing to wait on Minnesota as they attempt to appease, or possibly ignore, the receiver's grievances.
Head coach Leslie Frazier does not appear to be rattled by Harvin's reported requests to be dealt.
"I really feel like when he and I sit down and talk in depth, whatever is in his heart or on his mind, we'll get through it." said Frazier.
If the Vikings hope to improve from last year's subpar campaign, they better hope that Frazier is correct.
Harvin will be entering his fourth year in the league and despite Minnesota's dismal 3-13 record in 2011, the former UF product enjoyed his most productive campaign. Harvin caught 87 passes for 967 yards, and six TDs. He did not miss a game.
The Vikings are already in danger of missing their other offensive star, Adrian Peterson. Peterson suffered a torn ACL late in 2011 and is questionable at best for the opening weeks of 2012.
The Vikings will be relying on Harvin to be a part of their aerial attack so that he can provide a reliable target for second year quarterback, Christian Ponder.
Ponder is entering a critical year as there are doubts regarding his ability to be a long term answer for the once dominant Vikings.
Harvin is still not 100% back from shoulder surgery that he underwent during the offseason. His convalescence is not expected to extend into the regular season.
He still has two years left on his rookie deal and it is unclear at this point if money is the catalyst for Harvin's displeasure.
If Harvin does not remain a Viking, he will be leaving the team to fend for themselves with Jerome Simpson (known more for his acrobatic Christmas Eve display than his stat sheet) and two rookie fourth round draft selections. Simpson will be serving a suspension until Week 4 and thus, the Minnesota receiving corps will be wafer thin until he returns.
The Vikings appear to need Harvin more than he may need them at this point in time.
