The Arizona Dbacks and the Chicago Cubs are playing on the MLB schedule on Thursday, as the Diamondbacks try to win again after the drama on Wednesday for the 100th anniversary of Wrigley Field and the game starts up at 2:20 pm ET and has Edwin Jackson taking on rookie Mike Bolsinger and the matchup is streaming from the MLB.com main website.
The Cubs celebrated 100 years of Wrigley with a pure Cubs game, as they blew it in the ninth inning and that was only fitting for a franchise that is known for its losing. The stadium predates World War I and was erected when the Ottoman Empire was still around. The Cubs are coming into the game as the last place team in the central division and this year that group is looking like it will be very tough, as the Cardinals won it last year, the Brewers are leading it now and both the Pirates and the Reds made the playoffs last season, meaning the Cubbies still have a huge hill to climb.
The Cubs thought they had a win in the bag on Wednesday for the anniversary, but it was not meant to be and they blew the save and allowed the Diamondbacks to win and it would have given the Cubs their fourth win in five games, but of course it was not meant to be after the bullpen blew it while giving up five runs on three hits and an error didn't help either. The team has blown over 25 games since back from the start of last season and according to the AP, they have blown 75 since the start of the 2011 season.
Edwin Jackson makes the start for the Cubs and he comes in at 1-1 with a plus 5.00 Era this season and he only was able to go for 5 2/3 innings on Saturday, but he allowed just two runs in the game and that gave the team a win. Jackson was previously with the Diamondbacks and now he will pitch against his old team and he was 6-10 with a 5.16 ERA in his last stretch with the club back in 2010 before he was traded.
The Cubs come into the game before they start a series with the Brewers on the road and they will play against Matt Garza on Friday, while they come into the game at 7-13 on the season. The team is 25th in runs scored in the early goings and 23rd in batting average and they are also 22nd in on base and 27th in slugging percentage. The pitching has been a bit better and they are ranked 14th in ERA, 10th in quality starts and 20th in WHIP and the team is also 13th in BAA.
The Diamondbacks have been very disappointing to start the season and they are 14th in runs, 22nd in batting average and 24th in slugging percentage. The pitching has been horrible and they are ranked 30th in ERA and quality starts and near the bottom of the league in WHIP and BAA.
