The St. Louis Rams continue to say all the right things when it comes to Sam Bradford, but are doing all the wrong things when it comes to the NFL Draft. The Rams are armed with the No. 2 pick and baring any trade-down situations they will use it. The Rams have taken interest in several top players, but continue to keep an eye on the quarterback class, leading many to believe they are not as invested in Bradford as originally stated.
The Rams are not picking up the option on Bradford's contract. The quarterback is coming off a season-ending ACL tear and while head coach Jeff Fisher and doctors have stated he is ahead of schedule in his recovery, the Rams are not taking any chances. While Bradford has shown signs of real promise in his time in the NFL, the quarterback has yet to make a real leap while others like Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck are exceling above him. So do the Rams hold on to the No. 2 pick for a top quarterback?
According to NFL.com, sources are reporting there is a strong about of interest between the Rams and quarterback Johnny Manziel. Sources are reporting that St. Louis is looking less and less likely to trade their No. 2 pick and are hoping to use it one the former Texas A&M quarterback depending on what the Houston Texans do.
The Texans will have the biggest impact in St. Louis' draft. If the team opts to take Jadeveon Clowney with the first pick, the Rams might stick around and grab Manziel. However, if the Texans grab the quarterback, the Rams could be inclined to move down since they have a strong pass rushing presence already. Every team in league will be calling about a move up in order to Clowney, giving the Rams plenty of leverage.
The Rams have been linked to everyone from wide receiver Sammy Watkins to offensive lineman Greg Robinson. However, the continue to circle the quarterback wagon. Is it simply because Manziel is too good to pass up if he falls past the No. 1 overall pick or is it because the Rams are preparing to completely move on from Bradford after this season?
Bradford will be the 2014 starting quarterback no matter who the Rams draft at the position. However, nothing is guaranteed beyond that. The trade rumors floating around his name certainly do not help the situation either.
