The MLB standings for 2014 in the AL and NL has a number of surprising division leaders and teams with great records as the baseball season schedule pushes into the final week and half of April and some clubs are starting to distinguish themselves in the American and National Leagues and right now the Oakland A's, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves and LA Dodgers are the top three teams on each side.

The American League East has the NY Yankees in the lead by one game and they just played a series with the Tampa Bay Rays and they have the Red Sox coming up soon and they are one game up on the surprising Toronto Blue Jays, who have played well in the early part of the season. The team is 1.5 up on Baltimore, who played the Red Sox over the weekend and they are ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays and the Red Sox in the standings as the season gets off to a quick start and that division could be tight all year.

The Detroit Tigers have taken a lead in the AL Central division, but that also might be a tough group to win this year, as the Kansas City Royals were over .500 last season and the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox have started off well early. The Indians made the playoffs last season and they should be in the mix as well despite a slow start. The team has a one game lead over the Royals and the Indians are 2.5 games back.

The west had the Mariners in the lead early, but Seattle has fallen back to expectations and now Oakland is the best team in the league with a 13-5 record and they are 2.5 games up on the Texas Rangers. The LA angels are now five games back and the Mariners are six back ahead of the Astros, who they play next and they are 5-14 on the season, Houston that is.

The Braves are leading the NL East and they are up over the Washington Nationals and the NY Mets and they are ahead of the Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies. The Central has been surprising and should be tough this season as well, as the Brewers are best in the MLB and the Cardinals are coming off of another World Series appearance. The team also has to deal with the Reds and Pirates who made the playoffs last season, while the Cubs remain terrible. The Dodgers are first in the west by a game over the San Francisco Giants while the Rockies, Padres and Diamondbacks are next.
