Tim Tebow has a new job with the SEC Network, but that doesn't mean the former Heisman winner has given up on his NFL career and teams like the Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings could be potential fits for the free agent if he was willing to take a backup role.
Tebow has been on the free agent market since he was let go by the Patriots last year and apart from some rumblings internally by the St. Louis Rams last season when Sam Bradford was injured, no one in the league has given him much of a chance. According to an SI.com report from March that spoke about Tebow and his new job, the quarterback has been working out constantly since the end of the season and he has continued to work on improving his footwork, throwing motion and accuracy and some scouts have said that he is markedly better than he was last year when he was with the Jets and Patriots.
While Tebow has a particular style and set of skills that some feel do not work well in the NFL, he has the results to back it up, as he went 7-1 as a starter with the Broncos and led them to the playoffs a couple years ago and he also led the team to a win against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs. No team has given him a chance like the Broncos did and that is a bit disrespectful, as many other quarterbacks are allowed to fail while playing and still get the benefit of the doubt, including names like Christian Ponder, Chad Henne and Mike Glennon, while Tebow, who has won more than all of those players, remains on the sidelines.
Part of that was Tebow's own doing, as he reportedly could have asked to be traded to the Jaguars over the Jets when the Broncos pulled off that move, but the bright lights of New York enticed him. That was a huge mistake, as the Jets never gave Tebow a chance to do anything, said all the wrong things to the press, used him terribly in games and then they cut him after teams had already worked out their backup situations after the draft last year, leaving him to twist in the wind. The Patriots picked him up, but that only lasted through training camp and the preseason and he was cut loose before the regular season started.
Tebow never came out to trash the Jets after the way they treated him and now he is preparing for the SEC Network gig, as the Orlando Sentinel reported that he was in a photo shoot for the network wearing blue and orange around his suit to rep Florida. Tebow could be an option for many teams as a backup, as the Bears are lacking in that area and so are the Browns, as they got rid of Jason Campbell and Brandon Weeden this offseason. Now I'm not saying give Tebow a starting job, but the man deserves a fair shot in this league and there are a number of teams where he could fit to do that. A Jaguars pairing is always an option, even though they have resisted that, while Jerry Jones could go crazy and bring Tim in as well. Hey, you never know.
