NY Mets Trade Rumors: Ichiro Suzuki, Andre Ethier, Alejandro De Aza Options With Ike Davis After Curtis Granderson, Juan Lagares Injuries?

New York Mets center fielder Juan Lagares (12) and third baseman David Wright (5) celebrate scoring on the home run hit by right fielder Andrew Brown (30) against the Washington Nationals during the first inning of an opening day baseball game at Citi Field. "

The NY Mets have been dealing with a number of injuries this season and that could spark some trade rumors, as names like Ichiro Suzuki, Andre Ethier, Alejandro De Aza and Nick Franklin have been mentioned in connection with the team if they decide to make a move with Ike Davis after losing both outfielders Curtis Granderson and Juan Lagares to injuries.

The Mets came into the season with tempered expectations after losing Matt Harvey and while they did not expect to make the playoffs, they hoped to improve from the mess that was last year and now injuries could tear it apart. Hardball Talk reported that the team was shopping Ike Davis again after he started to split time with Lucas Duda at first base and now the Mets could be more motivated to make a move now that those names have been injured. Granderson's injury is not serious, but losing Lagares is tough right now since the team was already down another outfielder in Chris Young as well.

Lagares is dealing with a hamstring injury and if that puts him on the disabled list, that could leave the Mets very shorthanded, as Lagares has started off the season well and has been very good with his defense in the field. Lagares and Granderson have been handling things well and the former Yankee was injured after hitting the wall in right field and while he could be out of the lineup, it's not expected to be for long after the x-ray on his injuries came back negative. Lagares was injured while running to first base, while Granderson hit the wall and hurt his ribs, arm and knee.

The Mets had some outfield depth without Young, but now they are a bit barren as they wait for him to come back and that may not come until the end of the week. The DL move could bring up Kirk Nieuwenhuis for the time being, but the Mets also could look for some trades to shore things up. Lucas Duda was forced to play the outfield to keep things going and Young appears to be on his way back after rehabbing in Las Vegas with the minor league team.

Terry Collins said to reporters that he has liked what Lagares has done in the outfield and losing him is a big blow to the team. CBS Sports writer Jon Heyman has identified Ichiro Suzuki, Andre Ethier, Alejandro De Aza and Nick Franklin as potential options for the team, as they need some more depth after losing those players. Suzuki may be out of the running now after the Yankees shopped him earlier in the season, as they are dealing with injuries as well. Ethier has been in and out of the lineup for the Dodgers and he also could be an option.

Franklin has been killing it in the minors and he also could play second and short for the Mets. He has worked in the outfield a bit this spring for the Mariners as he tries to get back to the majors and Hardball Talk reported earlier in the season that the Mets were interested in Franklin as well.
