NFL Rumors: Colin Kaepernick Sexual Assault Investigation With Quinton Patton, Ricardo Lockette In Miami As San Francisco 49ers Star In Trouble With Police?

Apr 10, 2014 01:13 PM EDT

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is reportedly being investigated for an alleged sexual assault that occurred at a Miami hotel at a wedding party, as reports came out that police are looking into allegations against the quarterback and things are at the beginning stages and no charges have been filed in the case as of yet.

Kaepernick is one of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL and this comes as he is working on a contract extension with the Niners that would make him one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the league. This could derail that deal and if things progress the wrong way, there is always a chance that the 49ers may look to trade him, which is something that some writes have proposed as a way to avoid overpaying him for his early success. The report was made from TMZ.com and it writes that Kaepernick was at the Viceroy hotel and was hanging out with a wedding party in April.

The website has pictures from that day with Kaepernick hanging out by the hotel pool with a large group, including a number of bikini clad women. The report says that the incident took place in April at the hotel and now the team has released a statement saying they are aware of the report and the issues and that they are gathering the facts. The report from TMZ also says that Kaepernick was out in Miami at a nightclub on Sunday morning and was all smiles, so clearly he is not worried about the current charges. Kaepernick has busted onto the scene over the past couple seasons and he led the 49ers to two straight championship games at quarterback and he also has already made a Super Bowl appearance in his young career.

Pro Football Talk reports that the investigation is underway and is in the "beginning stages" and this could definitely be a sticking point in his extension talks if things go a bad way. Kaepernick is looking to get paid in the $18 million-$20 million range like Jay Cutler this early in his career after all the success and now the Niners will have to weigh the issues at hand as they enter the draft in May.

Last season Kaepernick had over 3,100 passing yards and 21 touchdowns with just eight interceptions and while the team was one of the best in the league, he still has room for improvement. Kaepernick completed only 58 percent of his passes last season and the team was ranked last in the league in passing yards per game and now this situation could put the Niners in a very tough spot.
