NY Mets Trade Rumors: Ike Davis To Yankees, Pirates Options After Teixeira Injury? Joel Hanrahan Could Replace Bobby Parnell At Closer

The NY Mets have had an up and down start to the season and now the team could look to trade first baseman Ike Davis to the New York Yankees or the Pittsburgh Pirates, as the Bombers will be without Mark Teixeira after he injured his hamstring and as that goes on, the Mets are also looking to replace their closer after Bobby Parnell underwent surgery and Joel Hanrahan could be an option.

Davis has been mentioned in trade rumors since the offseason and now things could be heating up, as Davis is coming off one of his best performances as a Met and teams like the Yankees and Pirates still need a 1B. Teixeira went down with a hamstring injury and while it is only a Grade 1 strain, the Yankees could look to make a deal rather than shift Kelly Johnson across the infield and allow their two rookies to split time at third base. Davis is coming into the series against the Atlanta Braves after having a walk-off grand slam and that came against the Reds last week.

Terry Collins and the Mets used Lucas Duda as their starting first baseman, although Davis got the start after his slam game and now the team could look to move him when he is playing well. Davis had some big issues last season and was forced to go to the minors and now he is hitting .500 early on with a home run and four RBIs and he could be a short term solution for the Yankees, who have no idea if Teixeira will get injured again later this season after previously getting wrist surgery and missing most of 2013.

According to Newsday.com, while a trade is unlikely, since the Yankees and Mets have not pulled off a deal since 2004, it could be a good option for the Yanks. Davis and his swing should translate well to the Stadium in the Bronx and he could split time at DH and be a solid bench player when Teixeira returns. The Mets clearly like Duda over Davis and that is why he likely will be traded at some point this season, after it looked like a foregone conclusion earlier in the offseason.

The Mets are scrambling at closer after Bobby Parnell was injured and there is a chance they could grab Joel Hanrahan as a replacement. According to the NY Daily News, the Mets have been looking at Hanrahan and this comes after he had Tommy John surgery in 2103, the same that Parnell will undergo and that came after he had 46 saves in 2011 and 30 the following season.
