The Kansas City Royals are optimistic about their upcoming season despite losing in their season-opening series against the Detroit Tigers. Expectations are high for the club and the rough start will not lower them. The team is currently sitting at 0-2 with hopes of breaking their playoff absence that started in 1985. The team won their lone World Series that year and have not seen the postseason since. With an improved roster, the team faces off against the Chicago White Sox to get their first win of the year.

Kansas City has not won more than 86 games a season since they won the World Series. Every season has featured a month that ultimately results in their downfall. Last year, the team went 8-20 in the month of May, ending any postseason dreams as the Royals failed to catch up from the deficit. Now in the hole to start the year, Kansas City must be careful to not make this into an extended streak.

Kansas gave Detroit a run for their money, losing by one run each time. James Shields looked strong before the bullpen struggled. Jason Vargas put up a good fight be the bullpen once again let the team down in ten innings. James Guthrie will now take the mound, hoping to get the Royals their first win. Guthrie went 15-12 last season with a 4.04 ER looking strong. He will face off against Erik Johnson who spent most of last season hot and cold.

The White Sox are 2-1 this season. They look poised to sweep the Minnesota Twins in their opening series until they allowed five runs in three innings on Thursday. Alejandro DeAza is on a hot streak to start the season as he has three home runs while Jose Abreu has put up four runs.
