Tim Tebow is under fire yet again, but this time it isn't for his outspoken religious beliefs or his inconsistency on the gridiron. ESPN's Teddy Bruschi has suggested that the Jets QB "disappear, okay, Tim Tebow? You're not the starting quarterback."
Tebow took the constructive criticism in stride, but did not agree with the barb.
"To be honest, I just do what I'm told -- and this day (is) to talk to you (reporters), so I'm gonna talk to you," Tebow said to Nate Davis of USA Today. "And to be honest, I just go about it however the Jets set it up -- the rules that they want us to (follow), who they want us to talk to, who they don't want us to talk to. And so I don't get paid enough to make all those decisions. I just do what I'm told and try to do it as best as I can."
Tebow is correct; he rarely actively pursues the often excessive spotlight that a high profile NFL player receives. Outside of appearing in a commercial that spoke out against abortion (and aired during the Super Bowl) Tebow has not been the one to initiate his media frenzy.
It was the Jets that traded a 4th round selection for a backup QB and it was the Jets that paraded him out in front of the media for a high profile press conference upon his arrival in New Jersey.
Whether he would like it to or not, Tebow's role in the Jets offense will remain a closely followed storyline for the entirety of his career in New York. He frankly has no say in the matter and no one understands that better than him.
