The Portland Timbers and Philadelphia Union open up their MLS Soccer schedule on Saturday night as the Major League Soccer season starts up and the game comes from Jeld-Wen Field and is streaming online and kicks off at the same time as the Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Salt Lake game and everyone is hoping to begin with a positive result.
Portland has two home games to start the season before playing on the road against Colorado and Dallas and then the team has a rematch of the playoffs from last year with the Seattle Sounders coming home. The Sounders opened up the season with a win against Kansas City with a late goal in extra time and that came from Chad Barrett off the leg of Clint Dempsey and got Seattle started off with a positive result for the year after flaming out in the playoffs. The Whitecaps won big over the New York Red Bulls and now the team will be looking to rebound after that and the Caps got two goals from Kenny Miller.
The Timbers open the season at home against the Union and then they play against Chicago and the franchise is getting hit with a suit from Eddie Johnson saying that he was allowed to play with a concussion and this comes after he retired after suffering another injury. The Timbers finished last season in good position in the MLS and that got them into the Concacaf Champions League along with the red Bulls, Sporting Kansas City and the DC United and now they have the chance for another solid season in the league.
