The St. Louis Cardinals and NY Mets are playing in spring training on Friday and the game comes streaming from the MLB.com website and has the two teams looking to get off to good starts this season, with the Cards hoping to get back to the Series and New York looking to just get over the .500 mark and it goes down on 1:10 pm ET from Florida.
The Mets come into the season after spending a bit for the first time in years and they brought in Curtis Granderson and Bartolo Colon on contracts and while it isn't what the Yankees did, for the Mets right now that is a big deal. The team has been mentioned as a possible destination for Stephen Drew, but so far no deal has gone down and their offense was one of the worst in the league last season, ranking in the bottom part of the league in nearly every category, including 29th in batting average and slugging percentage.
The Mets come into the game after their matchup with the Houston Astros was called off for rain and now they play the Cards before a matchup with the Detroit Tigers. Bobby Parnell and Bartolo Colon will be relied on heavily this season and the Mets come in after being ranked 23rd in runs and 25th in on base percentage and Terry Collins has spoken about getting the offense back on track and that will be necessary, as Matt Harvey will be out all season after surgery.
The Cardinals seemingly are never out of things even when they lose players like Albert Pujols or Carlos Beltran and this year is no different. The Grapefruit League matchup with the Mets comes after the team had their game with the Minnesota Twins called off and they next will play against the Washington Nationals. The Cards were one of the best offensive teams in the league last season, putting up the third best amount of runs and ranking in that spot for on base percentage and the team also was fourth in batting average.
The Cards made it to the World Series and lost to the Boston Red Sox and that was the first time they matched up and now a rivalry could be brewing, as both teams easily could make it back this season. The Cardinals have fantastic young pitching and that should be a strength once again for the team and the offense is expected to be great again as well.
