The New York Jets opened up their practices to the public by allowing fan access to Day 2 of their minicamp schedule on Wednesday. The practices were held at their New Jersey facility.
As expected, Santonio Holmes did participate in individual drills despite being limited by a tender hamstring. Holmes has publicly claimed that he is being overworked.
Holmes needs to be both healthy and happy this season if the Jets are to rebound from a disappointing 2011. Plaxico Burress and his 45 receptions have left the building. Holmes is the lone veteran leader and could be integral in helping to develop a young Stephen Hill.
Mark Sanchez remains the starting QB and thus far, no true battle has formed between him and Tim Tebow. That could change during next month's training camp, but at this point in time there is not much to indicate a true threat to the USC alum. That aside, today marked the first opportunity for Jets fans to see the team's most marketable player in action since he was acquired from Denver via trade. Last week's OTA's were only open to the media.
Joe McKnight impressed during return drills today, while Kyle Wilson struggled to find quality reads during his attempts.
Vladimir Ducasse continues to work with the starting offensive line. His starting guard spot will be his to lose this offseason.
The Jets will arrive at SUNY Cortland on July 26th to begin the full length training camp.
