The Sochi 2014 Medal standings final results has Russia tops with the most wins overall with totals medals over the United States, taking the most gold and silver awards, while the USA finished with the most bronze medals and the second most total medals overall ahead of Norway and Canada, putting the Russian Federation first in the games they hosted, which will be another thing for Vladimir Putin to say went great in Sochi.

The Russians finished with 13 gold medals and 11 silver medals to go along with nine bronze medals to finish with 33 overall medals, while the United States was second with 28 overall medals, winning nine golds, seven silvers and 12 bronze medals. The US hockey team for the men did not finish with a medal and Shaun White couldn't take one home either and the fact that Lindsey Vonn was home and the speedskating team was terrible didn't help things either.

Norway finished next in the standings with 26 total medals and they took 11 golds for second place in that category, while Canada was next with 25 total medals and 10 golds. The Netherlands had eight golds and 24 total medals, while Germany and Austria finished ahead of France and Sweden. Thwin by Alexander Legkov of the cross country on Sunday officially put Russia in the lead in total medals for the Olympics and they began things tied up with Norway and that put them in first place.

The last three events of the day helped push Russia ahead officially and and they clinched the title as the host nation and leader for 2014 and it was part of a concerted push by the Federation to compete in a number of events and try and win the medals total. Had certain things held up for the United States as expected, there is a good chance that they would have finished in first place, but clearly that didn't happen and they ended up second overall in Sochi.

In 2010 Russia was terrible after they had just 15 medals overall in Vancouver and that included only three gold medals and now they have the lead in both of those categories and it was the most gold medals for a team from the Russian Federation. The final gold for Russia came on Sunday in the bobsled and some of the other ones included in figure skating as well as snowboarding, while the hockey team led by Alex Ovechkin did not get it done.
