Canada and Switzerland are playing the Olympics women's ice hockey semifinals on Monday and they are looking to matchup against the United States in the gold medal game and the matchup will be streaming from Sochi for the Winter games and comes after the US defeated Sweden to advance and now the Canadians have their chance and they are favored in the 12 pm ET game.
The Canadian team and the United States are expected to be in the gold medal game and that would continue their recurring rivalry and be a rematch of last time in Vancouver. Canada has won over the US already in the beginning rounds and the team started off with a 5-0 shutout win against Switzerland and then defeated Finland with a shutout in Group A before pulling out the close win against the United States. The team now is in the semifinals and they play against the Swiss again before a potential matchup with the United States after they dominated Sweden earlier on Monday.
The Canadian team hasn't given up any goals to a team that isn't the United States and that puts them as the favorite after winning over the Americans and all the momentum is on their side. The US team dominated with goals from Megan Bozek, Kendall Coyne and Brianna Decker and now they are into the gold medal game like everyone expected. The US now has clinched a medal in the event and the team has been against Canada for the gold medal three other times and that includes Nagano, Salt Lake City and in Vancouver in 2010 and in that matchup the Canadians took the gold.
The Canadian team comes in after winning over the Americans in the preliminaries and that was one of the most anticipated matchups of the tournament and the team won after scoring in the third to break things open. The US put up a good fight and the gold medal game will be a great matchup if Canada can get past the Swiss and in the first game the team went up 3-1 in the game and hung on when the Americans scored the next goal.
The Canadian team has had the number of the Americans over the past few matchups, as the team has won over the US three straight times at the Olympics and that came after the team won in Vancouver and the Salt Lake City gold medal games and now they potentially could go for the fourth in a row. Canada went undefeated in the first set and now they have the chance to do it through the semis and they matchup against the Swiss, who defeated Russia in the quarterfinals and now this is a rematch from earlier when the Canadians dominated that game.
