Tiger Woods hits his tee shot on the third hole during the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open golf tournament at Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course. "

The PGA Tour Leaderboard for the Farmers Insurance Open has Jason Day as the early leader at five under and names like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson and Keegan Bradley are chasing as the first round goes down on Thursday and heading into play on Friday, Woods hopes to be in good position, as he won this last year and loves it at Torrey Pines and heading into Saturday Jordan Spieth is in the lead and Mickelson has pulled out.

Woods is looking to win a major since taking the US Open here in 2008 and he has won here eight different times and no player has won an event nine times on the same course and Woods will be trying to do that here. Woods won five times on tour last season and took back his number one ranking and now he is looking to get another major after not winning one for years and watching as other players hoist trophies, including Rory McIlroy, who has won two in that time.

This tournament is a nice start for Woods and Mickelson and they are two players that will be watched very closely like usual. The two stars were the only ones to win multiple times last year on tour and they each would like to begin with a win in San Diego and Woods knows this course better than any on the tour and that makes him a favorite. Day has been playing very well over the past few months and he got started on the right track on Thursday, as he opened with pars across the board and then got into a nice stretch with four straight birdies and through 13 holes he did not have any bogeys.

Woods was only halfway through and he got off to a slow start as well, putting up one birdie and one bogey and the rest pars through eight holes and now he is looking to get into position heading into Friday's round and then into the weekend.
