The New York Giants had a rough season in every phase of the game, but none worse than the offense and now that longtime coordinator Kevin Gilbride has retired, the team has hired his replacement in Ben McAdoo, former quarterbacks coach of the Green Bay Packers and an assistant to head coach Mike McCarthy for nearly a decade.

The Giants were motivated to make a change after ranking near the bottom of the league in total offense and having Eli Manning throw for nearly 30 interceptions and now McAdoo will take over. According to ESPN.com and Pro Football Talk, the Giants hired McAdoo from the Green Bay Packers after he served as quarterbacks coach for the team the past two years after spending six years as the tight ends coach and this will be the first time that the 36-year-old has called plays. Eli Manning had said that he wanted consistency after Gilbride retired and many signs pointed to the team bringing back former coach Mike Sullivan, but instead the team opted for a more "exciting" and unexpected hire, as McAdoo is young and hasn't called plays before.

McAdoo said that the team will have a more up-tempo offense and that could help get Eli Manning back to the quarterback he was a couple years ago and if he can work on the run game, the Giants offense could bounce back quickly. Tom Coughlin is showing that he is willing to take a chance here and this one that could pay off, as teams have been trying to pry away McAdoo from the Packers for years and Aaron Rodgers gave him and stellar review after the hire was made public. The Giants need to shake things up after a decade under Gilbride and the team hired McAdoo after interviewing Sullivan, former UCLA coach Karl Dorrell and Titans coordinator Dowell Loggains.

McAdoo was a hot commodity this offseason after he interviewed with the Miami Dolphins for their OC and also with the Cleveland Browns for their head coaching job and now the Giants have hired him as the Baltimore Ravens also were sniffing around. McAdoo has been with the Packers since 2006 and he comes in needing to overhaul the offense after they ranked 29th in the league in rushing in yards per game with just 83 per contest, while the passing offense ranked 19th and Eli Manning finished with 27 interceptions.
