Theo Walcott Injury: Arsenal and England Star To Miss World Cup 2014 and English Premier League Season With Knee Injury

Jan 06, 2014 02:07 PM EST

Arsenal and England national team star Theo Walcott suffered a knee injury against Tottenham in the FA Cup over the weekend and now he will be out for the World Cup and the rest of the English Premier League schedule this season in 2014 after the injury, which tore a anterior cruciate ligament in his left leg.

According to FIFA.com, Walcott was injured in the win against Tottenham in the third round at home this weekend and as he was carted off the field many speculated about whether or not the injury would allow him to return this season. The England World Cup bid takes a hit with the way Walcott was playing, so do the league championship chances for Arsenal unless they can replace him. Walcott was put on a stretcher after being injured and the issue came when he made a tackle close to the end of the match and while he initially thought it was a sprain, the injury now will keep him out for the rest of the year and it could be for at least six months.

Arsenal is currently at the top of the English Premier League table and the Gunners arte in the lead, but they have some tough matches coming up with Liverpool, Manchester United and then against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and now all of it will be done without Walcott, who had really started to play well recently. Arsenal plays against Coventry City in the fourth round of the FA Cup after winning against the Spurs. The club is currently leading the EPL table over Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton and Chelsea and is in first place heading into next weekend's games.

From FIFA.com: "After coming off injured in Saturday's 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur, the club regrettably announces that Theo Walcott has sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee," said the statement on the club's official website, www.arsenal.com.

FIFA on Twitter: Arsenal & England have been rocked by the news that Theo Walcott will miss the rest of the season and the #worldcup
