Oakland Raiders Rumors: Terrelle Pryor or Matt McGloin Released After 2013 Season? Teddy Bridgewater and Johnny Manziel Top 2014 Draft Options

Dec 30, 2013 10:24 AM EST

The Oakland Raiders finished with a 4-12 record for the second straight season under head coach Dennis Allen and while his security is not certain yet, there could be changes at quarterback, as Terrelle Pryor or Matt McGloin could be released at the end of the season in 2013 and after the Matt Flynn trade did not work out, the franchise may try to start over in the 2014 draft with Teddy Bridgewater or Johnny Manziel.

The Raiders are in the fifth position for the draft after having a top pick last season and trading down and with the future of the franchise uncertain, there is a good chance the team will pick a franchise quarterback after using their top pick on cornerback DJ Hayden last season. Allen has the chance to remain as the head coach, but after the way Pryor and McGloin played this season, there are real questions about who will start next season. In free agency the team could go after names like Michael Vick or Jay Cutler, but it remains to be seen whether the team wants to spend that much money or if they rather would bring in someone younger.

Both Pryor and McGloin showed some nice flashes this season and Pryor finishes with seven touchdowns and 1,800 yards passing, while McGloin had eight touchdowns and 1,547 yards and while both are young as well, Reggie McKenzie and owner Mark Davis may want to try and build around someone like Bridgewater or Manziel. Bridgewater is expected to be the top quarterback taken this season in the draft if he comes out, as many feel that he is pro ready and has the skills to succeed in the NFL.

The Raiders finished the season with six straight losses and while the defense played better at times this season, they did not show as much improvement as expected after signing a number of players in the offseason, including Charles Woodson. The best win of the season was against the Steelers and the team also defeated a playoff team in the Chargers and now they will try and improve after going just 4-12 for the second straight season.

Pryor started the final game of the season and he went 6-of-11 passing for 35 yards in the first half and while that was a terrible way to start the game, he did have a very nice TD pass to TE Nick Kasa as well as one to Rod Streater and with his running ability he could develop into a nice quarterback if given the chance. There was some controversy at the end of the season with the decision to start Pryor, but now the team has a chance to evaluate and they now have to decide what they want to do at quarterback and head coach in the future.
