Knicks Trade Rumors: Rajon Rondo Move Wanted By New York With Boston Celtics To Keep Carmelo Anthony

The New York Knicks lost another home game on Christmas Day to the Oklahoma City Thunder and as things get worse and worse for the franchise, it appears the front office has a plan to try and dig out of it, as New York is hoping to pry away point guard Rajon Rondo from the Boston Celtics by the end of the season or over the summer to team the star with Carmelo Anthony when he hopefully re-signs with the team after the season.

Reports of the Celtics trading Rondo have been bubbling for quite some time and the team has been consistent in saying they are not trading him, but that could change by the end of the season or after Rondo comes back from his ACL injury. The trading deadline is in February and over the summer could be an option as well, with Anthony likely opting out of his deal and then hopefully (for the front office's sake) re-signs with the team after that. According to ESPN.com, the Knicks are hoping that Rondo is interested in teaming up with Anthony on the Knicks and they feel they have a good chance of getting Rondo if he asks for or orchestrates a trade with the two teams, linking back to the way Anthony originally got the Knicks a few years ago.

The ESPN.com report said that the Knicks would love to have Rondo on their team with Anthony and they feel that the two could be a championship pair with the experience Rondo has with the Celtics. Rondo still has not returned from his injury and if he is not back before the trading deadline things could get interesting and then the scenario could potentially play out like it did with Anthony and the team is hoping that happens. Anthony forced the Nuggets into a move because he said he would leave in free agency and with Rondo getting close to that situation as well, it might benefit the Celtics more to deal him rather than let him leave for nothing as a free agent.

The report also says that the Knicks could try for a different plan if that doesn't work out, as the 2015 free agent class has many names that they could try and snag, including Kevin Love, Marc Gasol, Tony Parker as well as Roy Hibbert and another option is LaMarcus Aldridge and of course Rondo when he is actually a free agent. The Knicks got beat bad again at home and now the team is in bad position heading into 2014 and the only saving grace they have is the fact they are in the Atlantic division and the eastern conference, which is full of losing teams. Mike Woodson is on the hot seat big time and Anthony is getting frustrated and that could get the team to do something crazy down the line with a trade.
