The New York Yankees need a second baseman and now that the Seattle Mariners signed Robinson Cano, they don't need another one, which is why the Yanks, NY Mets and San Diego Padres have asked the Seattle Mariners about former second overall pick Dustin Ackley.

The Mariners signed Cano to a 10-year, $240 million contract last week and now they could deal Ackley, who has not developed much since being the number two overall draft pick behind Stephen Strasburg and he did not play well at second base, which is why the team used young star Nick Franklin there instead and moved him to the outfield. The team now also could move Franklin while keeping young stars Brad Miller and Mike Zunino and the Mets could be an option as well after reports came out that they would like to move Daniel Murphy.

According to Hardball Talk, the Yankees, Mets and Padres are all interested in Ackley and with the Mariners talking to free agents like Nelson Cruz and looking at keeping Franklin Gutierrez, Ackley may not have a place on the diamond. The team brought back former wonder man and utility player Willie Bloomquist and he could take over somewhere if needed as well and while the team had high hopes for Ackley, he has not panned out, but they also could be embarrassed yet again if they trade someone that flourishes elsewhere, which happened with Doug Fister, Brendon Morrow and Shin-Soo Choo.

The Padres are also looking to possibly trade Chase Headley and that could open things up for the team and the Mariners are looking to upgrade in a number of areas and while he has not been great, Ackley could get something decent back in return based on his potential. Last season he hit .245 and was shuffled around the lineup and the diamond and with the way the offseason is shaping up, chances are the team trades at least one of their young players.
