Robinson Cano Rumors: NY Yankees Star Wants $310 Million Contract, Dodgers, New York Mets, Tigers, Mariners In Contention?

The Major League Baseball free agent market is unlike any other on earth and this season things are revolving around Robinson Cano and the money he will get as a second baseman and apparently he still wants over $300 million, even though only a handful of teams can afford to come anywhere close to that.

According to ESPN NY, the Yankees star wants over $300 million over 10-years and while Scott Boras may think it's a good idea, the Yanks are surely going to avoid going for a deal like that and that leaves teams like the Dodgers, New York Mets, Tigers, Mariners and Texas Rangers in contention, but only because they can at least afford to do a move like that, but that is NOT saying they would do it.

Either way, whether Cano wants this money or not, it's a starting point and it surely will come down from that numbers, but the fact that it remains that high means he likely will not be in NY. Hardball Talk brings up a good point that the sources in the story might be bringing up those numbers to help make Cano look worse from a public relations standpoint, as he is asking for too much money and it's not the Yankees letting him go. Either way, should be interesting.

Per ESPN NY: "Robinson Cano has not budged off his request of a 10-year, $310 million contract, a source with knowledge of the asking price told ESPN New York on Monday."
