Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Ed Reed Free Agent Option After Release? New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, Colts and Ravens Could Sign Safety

The Houston Texans made an interesting move this week by releasing safety Ed Reed after previously signing him to a three year deal and now a number of teams could be looking to sign the safety for his services, including the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts and his former team in the Baltimore Ravens.

Reed is in a nice position, as he could sign with someone for less than he normally would, as he made $5 million guaranteed from the Texans for starting just five games, meaning teams near the cap could be open ti signing him. According to ESPN.com, the Texans decided to relase Reed after things started to not really work out on the field, as he only played in 12 snaps on Sunday and afterwards Reed criticized his team and the coaching staff, saying they were outplayed and outcoached by the Arizona Cardinals in the close loss on Sunday.

The Texans have now lost seven straight games since starting 2-0 and those games were close as well and now Reed is on the market after previously assigning a three year deal with the team, but the latter two seasons were not guaranteed. The Ravens of course are a fit only for the fact that he once played there, while teams like the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, Eagles and Colts all could use an upgrade at the position. Patriots coach Bill Belichick has long admired Reed and he could be an option to sign moving forward.

The Cowboys are another team that could use a safety and now Reed is gone after playing a half season with the Texans and while the 35-year-old should have some interest, there is a chance he could hang up his cleats as well. The Texans have been terrible this season and they have also lost Arian Foster for the year and now Reed is on the market again after playing his first decade in the league in Baltimore and chances are the multiple Pro Bowler and former Defensive Player of the Year will sign with someone else. The Ravens don't really need a safety with Matt Elam playing well, but the Boys and the Eagles sure could use his help, as could the Patriots.

The Cowboys, according to ESPN.com, are considering Reed and they also looked at Michael Huff, who replaced Reed with the Ravens. The team has dealt with injuries at the position and they have been one of the worst teams against the pass as well and that could spur them to sign Reed. The Cowboys have been dealing with Barry Church and Jeff Heath and that could open the door for Reed to come in, but it remains to be seen whether they will make that move or not. The Patriots make some sense and they could being in Reed since the team loves his style of play and Belichick could make the move.
