It is now Week 11 of the NFL season and Darrelle Revis is still hearing about his move from the New York Jets to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The cornerback was part of a draft-day trade that sent him packing down south in favor of a top draft pick for New York. Revis had been in a contract dispute with the team so the move was certainly not shocking, but according to Revis, Jets fans still will not leave him alone.
In an interview with the New York Post, Revis said that he continues to get threatening messages from Jets' fans on Twitter over his move to switch teams.
"You've got to have a backbone, because guys are saying, 'F-k you!' and 'I want to kill you!' It's crazy, but I've been getting death threats from them since my first holdout [in 2010]. It's just bitter Jets fans," Revis said. "They're still not over the fact that I'm not there no more, and they give me crap all the time on Twitter. If they would understand the business of it and understand what happened, then maybe they would know and maybe they would quit trying to point the finger at me. That's where it is."
This is not the first time that Revis has lashed out to fans over Twitter comments. Recently a Jets fan questioned whether the cornerback wanted wins or money when it comes to football. At the time, Tampa Bay had yet to earn their first victory. Revis responded by saying the extra $4 million was worth it whether or not the team was winning or not. Naturally, that did not sit too well with Buccaneers fans who think Revis not doing enough for the team.
"They're still not over the fact that I'm not there no more, and they give me crap all the time on Twitter," Revis said. "If they would understand the business of it and understand what happened, then maybe they would know and maybe they would quit trying to point the finger at me. That's where it is."
The Buccaneers finally have their first win of the season after defeating the Miami Dolphins on Monday night. The cornerback sealed the victory by intercepting quarterback Ryan Tannehill in the final minutes of the game. That was Revis' first big play of the season, but no matter what, he has no regrets about what went down with him leaving the Jets in favor of Tampa Bay regardless of how the season is going.
