The Wildcats are a roster packed with freshmen. In total, Kentucky has nine freshmen in their roster, but do not sleep on these guys. Julius Randle is making noise all around college basketball and the forward from Dallas, Texas is expected to make immediate impact in Kentucky's lineup.
The Wildcats will attempt to bounce back from a 21-12 season that saw them miss the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship. The Wildcats were decent last season, especially at home where they went 16-2 and 12-6 against teams from their conference. Away from home, including neutral grounds, they were 5-10.
The struggles in Kentucky were expected after the entire starting five declared for the 2012 NBA Draft. Led by Anthony Davis in 2011-2012, the Wildcats were able to cruise to an NCAA Championship, only to find themselves out of contention the following year. It was a decent season that saw the birth of a start in Nerlens Noel. He brought highlights to Kentucky, but his season was cut short after a knee injury. Regardless, Noel went No. 6 in the 2013 NBA Draft only to get traded to the Philadelphia 76ers.
This season, the Wildcats will look forward to seeing freshman foward, Julius Randle, play in Kentucky. The youngster is expected to make a difference immediately and he has already wound up in highlights on Sports Center.
Kentucky faces the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs out of the Big South Conference. UNC-Asheville is one of the many unranked teams the Wildcats will face this new season.
