David Ortiz Just Had One Of The Best World Series Performances In History, The Numbers Don't Lie For MVP (MLB Commentary)

Oct 31, 2013 09:59 AM EDT

The Boston Red Sox are World Series champions for the third time in 10 years and after winning their first title at Fenway Park since 1918, the only man to be on all three teams is David Ortiz and he ended up winning MVP in 2013 for good reason, as he had one of the best performances in the World Series ever.

Ortiz was nearly unstoppable in the World Series, at one point putting up a plus-.700 batting average and during the six games, he only missed on a few pitches, swinging through just three all series heading into Game 6. The numbers don't lie and he deserved to win World Series MVP. Ortiz helped along in this game by scoring after being intentionally walked and during the series the Cardinals did not do that enough, allowing him to hurt them and that is one of the main reasons why the Sox ended up as champions.

Ortiz was intentionally walked three times in the series and ended up on base in 19 of the 25 times he came up to the plate. Ortiz was able to hit over .680 in the Series, putting up 11-hits in 16 at-bats and he also now is the third oldest World Series MVP, according to ESPN.com. Ortiz now has a .465 career batting average in the World Series and while he hit two home runs and had six RBIs, he very well could have had more with a grand slam that was robbed by Carlos Beltran.

Ortiz was the only choice for MVP and now he could have some Cooperstown consideration.
