The Boston Red Sox broke the curse of Babe Ruth in grand fashion years ago when they won the World Series in 2004 and they added a bit more to it in 2007 with another title, but having won both away from Fenway Park, something was missing and now with Game 6 at home Wednesday, ticket prices are getting insane for people to witness history.
According to ESPN.com, tickets for the game are now up over $1,000 after starting off at around $300 last week for the Game 6 matchup, but that was likely due to the fact that no one knew if it would be going down or not. The report says that according to TiqIQ, a ticket tracking company, the average price for tickets getting resold to people is up near $2,000 at $1,860 and that people have been paying a ridiculous amount of money, including two of the best season going for over $20,000 for the game. The report says that those seats are for the first row in the dugout box and has a view between home plate and the on-deck area, giving fans a great vantage point.
Many in the city can feel the championship coming after taking the last two from St. Louis on the road and Jon Lester was dominant in his start for Game 5 and now the team has a chance in Game 6. Michael Wacha will be on the mound for the Cardinals and many wonder whether he can continue the fantastic streak he is on in the playoffs, as he is staking a claim as one of the top young pitchers ever. Wacha will likely pitch against John Lackey in the matchup and clearly the team needs to win to stay alive.
The past two championship celebrations for the Red Sox have come on the road and many see this as the final way to end the curse for real, as Fenway Park has not been witness to a champion since back in 1918. The World Series win back in 2004 was in St. Louis, while the 2007 championship came on a sweep in Colorado and the one back in 1918 came against the Chicago Cubs on September 11th and that is the last time Boston witnessed a World Series championship live.
The report says that tickets have gone up at least 35 percent in some spots, including the bleacher area, where tickets are now up near $1,000 after starting out around $600. The report says there are still a few thousand tickets out there for any Bostonians and Red Sox fans looking to witness history on Wednesday night in a possible win for the Red Sox. Boston is now up in the series 3-2 after winning game 5 and the Cardinals have their backs against the wall after their bats went cold against Boston in St. Louis. That pickoff play now really will haunt the team and while they made a comeback two years ago to defeat the Texas Rangers, this is a different Cardinals team and a different Boston Red Sox squad that it much more experienced in big games than the Rangers were.
