The Minnesota Vikings are not having the most successful season and that is an understatement and that lack of success has spurred trade rumors involving Adrian Peterson and while he likely will not get traded, teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, St. Louis Rams and New Orleans Saints could be crazy enough to pull off a deal.

Most of the rumors got started when a local columnist wrote that the team should rebuild and trade Adrian Peterson, as he is getting older, makes a lot of money and the team is terrible. Writers picked up on that and added in their own spins on it about what the Vikings should do and while it is most likely NEVER going to happen, we might as well take a look at who could do it. Teams will need to likely give up two first round picks at minimum to get the deal done and with teams like the Cowboys, Dolphins and Buccaneers struggling with the run, they could be the ones to do it.

Jerry Jones has always seemed a bit crazy and let's not forget, the Vikings and the Dallas Cowboys previously pulled off a big move for Herschel Walker, although it was in the opposite direction. Peterson is 28-years-old and while he is putting up amazing numbers, he will be over the hill soon and with the Vikings looking pretty terrible, it might be time to just cut and run and start with the rebuilding process and Peterson is actually a player that could net a nice haul of draft picks.

The Colts already traded for Trent Richardson and that was a big surprise and while he had 2,000 yards last season, the Vikings have been pretty bad and with just one win this season, they are looking to be pretty terrible. Adding to the intrigue with the Cowboys is the fact that Dallas splays against Minnesota next week! Could you imagine? Peterson gets traded and that same week he has to face his old team? That is crazy enough where it actually could come true, but too ridiculous to actually go down in real life. This is a bit of fantasy football creeping up into reality, but there is no shame in the Vikings trying to see what value they can get from other teams.

Dallas is the richest so that makes sense, while Miami has a big spending owner and they could try and make a move after long four straight after opening 3-0, while the Rams are probably not even close with them already losing Sam Bradford. Peterson is having another very solid season with 571 yards rushing and six touchdowns and while he has not had over 100 yards in three weeks, which is mostly because the Vikings have not been able to pass the ball at all with josh Freeman and Christian Ponder.

The team lost another tough game against the Packers and Peterson has less than 15 carries for the third straight week. While he has had eight catches over the past three weeks, his production has been slowed and while the team likely will not trade him, the Cowboys seem to be the best fit for it. Bill Barnwell on Grantland did a great rundown of how the Boys ditch their promising running backs once they turn bad, so for any fan that thinks DeMarco Murray is untouchable, think again. The team has been terrible rushing the ball and adding Peterson, no matter the cost, would be an amazing move for Jerry Jones.
