The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now 0-7. They are now in a race with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the top draft pick in 2014. It is a race no team wants to be in, but here the Buccaneers are, struggling more than ever. At the heart of it all is Greg Schiano who reportedly has lost all control of the locker room and cornerback Darrelle Revis is concerned.
Revis spoke with FOX 13, offering candid insight into the drama surrounding Tampa Bay this season. The team has dealt with nothing but negative headlines all year. The Josh Freeman controversy and the MRSA breakout have troubled the Buccaneers, but the rumors of Schiano getting fired might be the worst. Revis is concerned that the team no longer trusts the coaching staff in place.
"I don't know," Revis said. "I don't know. You know, we got a game plan every week. We gotta stick to the game plan. We gotta abide by the game plan and what we're trying to do to win. I don't think guys are literally going out there and trying to do their own thing. You know, in every game there are mistakes up and down the board. You know, the word that we have to get to and we have to focus on is consistency. That's all. And at this point, that's a hard word for us to try to do, to try to do that, to be consistent."
Revis is unaware is Schiano will be fired at some point. The cornerback is trying not to look into things and rumors, but said he likely would not be surprised with anything that happens. Meanwhile, a Tampa Bay radio station has started a billboard campaign to get the head coach fired as soon as possible.
With all of the negativity happening right now in the organization, Schiano says he is not feeling affected by the blowback from fans. After the loss to Carolina fans were chanting "fire the coach" as boos poured down onto the field.
"It doesn't affect me," Schiano said. "People are certainly entitled to their opinion. Here's the thing, my whole career - player and a coach - you get up in the morning, you work as hard and as smart as you can. It usually puts you to bed tired and you get up and you do it again and that's the way I do it. I do it the best we can. Our coaches and players stick together. Sometimes it doesn't go your way. We've just got to keep doing it, look for new ways to make us better and hopefully go get a win in Seattle."
Schiano has won just 7 of 23 games coached. He might not be bothered by the negativity now, but things are only going to get worse for him.
