The Major League Baseball playoffs are in full swing and since here at Sports World Report our main baseball writer only covers schedules for games and not much else, here is a look at some of the news going around in baseball during the postseason, including that Brad Ausmus may interview for the Nationals manager opening, Mike Scioscia and the Angels are talking about a deal, while Walt Weiss got an extension from the Rockies.
First, let's get to the fun stuff with Alex Rodriguez, as his hearing about his suspension appeal is starting back up again and as that goes on, an online petition was put out by Hispanics Across America, asking people to sign to help stop "the injustice" against A-Rod. Rodriguez is fighting a 211-game suspension for his connection to the Biogenesis scandal. According to Hardball Talk, the petition is on supportarod13.com and also has a photo gallery of the star along with other information about A-rod and his hearing.
Ausmus is looking like an option for the Nationals job according to Hardball Talk, as he may interview with Washington as well as the Miami Marlins and possibly the Houston Astros, where he previously played baseball. The Nationals are looking for a new manager to replace Davey Johnson and the Washington Post is reporting that Ausmus could be an option to take over as manager after playing nearly two decades in the majors.
Ausmus would be a much younger option and after the Nationals missed the playoffs after winning the NL East last season, they could be looking for a new leader in the clubhouse. One team likely not looking for a new leader is the Angels, as ESPNLosAngeles.com is reporting that manager Mike Scioscia and the team has been meeting this offseason and since he has five years and $27 million, chances are he will be coming back.
The Angels came into the season with high expectations, but after finishing out of the postseason for the fourth straight year and dealing with an injury to Albert Pujols, the team did not play as well as planned. Rumors circulated all year that the manager would not return, but now it appears that he will be back.
Another manager that will be back is Rockies leader Walt Weiss, as the team gave him a three year contract after having a solid season in 2013. The team was way under .500 in 2012 and improved to 74-88 last season and now they hope Weiss will be around for the long haul.
