New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals Live Stream: Watch Online NHL Game Streaming On NBC Sports Network At 8 PM

Oct 16, 2013 07:37 PM EDT

The New York Rangers have been horrible this season in the NHL and their start at 1-4-0 mirrors the crosstown New York Giants and now they will try and get things together on Wednesday night as the team faces off against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on the road at the Verizon Center for a game that starts at 8:00 pm on the NBC Sports Network.

The Capitals and the Rangers are now in the same division and the two teams have combined for three wins and just six points so far this season and the Rangers are tied at the bottom of the new Metropolitan division with the Flyers with just one win and two points, while Philly has six losses to the four for NY. Not much has gone right for the Rangers and they will need to quickly turn things around to get back in the division race, as the Pittsburgh Penguins already have 10 points and five wins. The team will next face their rivals in the New Jersey Devils, who have zero wins this season but three OTLs, putting them ahead in the standings.

So far this season, the team is ranked 28th in goals per game and 30th in goals against, something that should not happen when the roster has stars with names like Brad Richards, Henrik Lundqvist and Rick Nash. The team is ranked 10th in power play percentage and 22nd on the penalty kill and Richards is currently leading the team with five points and four goals, while Derek Stepan has five assists.

The team is opening with another long road trip like last season due to the construction at Madison Square Garden and while that has played a part in the losses, there is much more than that going on. The team has not been competitive at all and they have scored just nine goals over their first five games, which is pretty terrible. The team gave up nine and six in back to back losses to the Sharks and the Ducks and they also gave up five to the Blues and has only held one team under two goals in the Kings, which was the only win of the season.

The team continues its road stretch through next week and into the end of the month, as they play on the road against the Capital before travelling to New Jersey to play the Devils and then they have another rivalry game against the Philadelphia Flyers before venturing to Detroit to play the Red Wings, one of the newest teams in the Eastern conference. The team finally plays at home against the Montreal Canadiens on October 28 and then they will play the Islanders on the road the following day before hosting the Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks and Pittsburgh Penguins all in a row at MSG.

The Rangers have been terrible, but they have a chance to right the ship on Wednesday when they play the Caps and they will have some new blood, as the team ditched Martin Biron and Arron Asham in a shakeup and now they bring on Cam Talbot and JT Miller to replace them, which is the first big move for new coach Alain Vigneault. The Rangers and Caps will be facing off at 8 pm on the NBC Sports Network on Wednesday.
