Maurice Jones-Drew Trade Rumors: San Diego Chargers or Oakland Raiders Options After Darren McFadden Injury?

The Jacksonville Jaguars are 0-4 this season with no hope in sight and the trade of Eugene Monroe to the Baltimore Ravens might be the first of many deals this season and running back Maurice Jones-Drew could be next on the list.

According to Pro Football Talk, Maurice Jones-Drew is a probable trade candidate, as the team likely will not be signing him long term with his injury issues and with him being in the final year of his contract, it makes sense to move him to get something back in return. Jones-Drew has been a capable and talented running back for years, but with the Jaguars not going anywhere any time soon, it could be the right time to make a deal so the team could keep setting up for the future, moving him for draft picks (or a pick).

Jones-Drew has just 138 yards this season over four games and while some teams might be scared away by his injury history, Pro Football Talk reports that the San Diego Chargers or the Oakland Raiders could be options for the team to make a deal. The report says that after the Trent Richardson trade, teams could be looking for lower picks to move in return for Jones-Drew, with the Chargers being the best fit.

With the team 2-2 and dealing with a number of injuries on offense, adding Jones-Drew to the mix with Danny Woodhead and the oft-injured Ryan Mathews could get the team on track, as Philip Rivers is having a rebound season and could lead the team to the playoffs. The Colts traded for Trent Richardson after losing Vick Ballard and while the Chargers haven't had a major loss at the position yet, it could really open things up for the offense if he can stay healthy.

The report says that Drew is getting just under $5 million and while that is a steep price, teams like the Raiders and Chargers could afford it. The Raiders have an injury to Darren McFadden and raise your hand if you've never heard that before and while Jones-Drew has an injury history as well, many have speculated that the Raiders could be a good fit for him as a free agent and the team could get a head start on that in a trade.

Drew is averaging just over 2.0 yards per carry this season and with just 138 yards on 57 attempts, he could be on his way out of town. He hasn't had more than 20 carries in any game this season and after rushing for just 23 yards against the Colts in yet another loss, the team could be ready for a fire sale. Mercedes Lewis and other players could be on their way out as well.
