America's Cup Comeback Complete: Oracle Wins Race 19 In San Francisco Bay For Auld Mug Trophy

Sep 25, 2013 02:25 PM EDT

The America's Cup has been dealing with delays for weather all event, but for the epic matchup in Race 19 on Wednesday between Emirates Team New Zealand and Oracle Team USA, the weather appears to be crisp and nice with no chance of rain.

According to Weather.com, the chance of rain is down near zero and while winds could whip up and delay the race, chances are with the weather, the decisive Race 19 will go down on Wednesday. The race has already been delayed due to weather and many people had to leave for other obligations, but Larry Ellison did not, even skipping an Oracle keynote address to be with his team.

Oracle won the Cup in 2010 and with that they also were able to create the rules for the race, with Ellison picking the San Francisco bay and using a new boat to go along with it. There has been plenty of drama, with the American team getting docked two points before the event even began and then disaster struck, as the Kiwi team pulled out to a seemingly insurmountable 8-1 lead. The Americans have been fighting back and after winning two races on Tuesday, things are tied at 8-8.

According to Reuters, the race started on September 7 and is now the longest America's Cup in history and the Auld Mug will be given out to the team that can win the best of 17 series, which had to go longer because of the docked points. This is the most that the teams have had to contend with and the Americans slowly whittled away the 8-1 lead and are now set for another chance to win on Wednesday.

Oracle has used the weather to its advantage and the delays have only ramped up the pressure on the Kiwis and now they are looking to try and reclaim the trophy, but the chances aren't looking good the way the Americans are riding. The team lost the Cup back in 2003 and now are looking to win again for the second time in two decades and Ellison is hoping that the millions he put into the event won't be for a waste.
