The Mariano Rivera farewell tour has been going on all season long through Major League Baseball and now that the Yankees season is coming to a close, the New York closer will get one final series to pitch in Yankee Stadium before hitting the road for the last series against the Houston Astros.
The Yankees lavished Rivera with gifts on Sunday like other teams have all season and on Tuesday fans were expecting to get the same treatment, as the game was set to be Mariano Rivera bobblehead night. The game was scheduled to give out bobbleheads to the first 18,000 fans to come with their tickets, but things turned a bit chaotic in the process, as the products did not get to the stadium on time. According to the NY Daily News, thousands of people arrived to the game early to lineup to make sure they got a collectible bobblehead, but instead they ended up with vouchers.
People posted pictures on social media from the stadium of lines stretching into the street and fans also posted pictures of their vouchers that would later get them bobbleheads. The Yankees announced that the shipment got in just before the game started and later people were able to get their bobblehead dolls with the vouchers.
Rivera was given a big ceremony at Yankee Stadium on Sunday that was fantastic, as it was the final Sunday game in the Bronx and the team was playing an interleague matchup with the San Francisco Giants. The Yankees ended up losing the game and with it any hope of staying in the wild card hunt, but everything the team did for Rivera was fantastic.
