Arsenal has qualified in the group stage in the last 13 seasons, reaching the final in the 2005-06 season and the semifinals in 2008-09.

Defender Laurent Koscienly understands the importance of beginning the campaign with a win and believes that because of their past experiences in the competition they'll manage to negotiate their way into the knockout stages of the tournament.

"The most important thing in the Champions League is to start well," the Frenchman told the club's official website.

"We are experienced in the Champions League and are all looking forward to this challenge again.

"We know this will be a big challenge for us but we did well against Marseille and Dortmund the last time we played and we are confident of doing it again."

According to ESPN the match will be a welcome return to Champions League action for Marseille, having last season missed out on the competition for the first time in five years.

"We were frustrated last year when we did not play Champions League football, so we are looking forward to returning," captain Steve Mandanda said.

"These games are magnificent to play in and we are delighted to be back in this competition. We missed it."
