New England Patriots Rumors: Rob Gronkowski Returning Week 3 Is Welcome News For Tom Brady

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are 2-0 this season after winning against division opponents in the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets, but the team has struggled with injuries on offense, making the possible return of Rob Gronkowski welcome news for the quarterback.

According to ESPN.com, there is a chance that Gronk could return this Sunday for the Patriots' game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and that would be his first action since getting multiple surgeries in the offseason on his arm and other areas. Gronkowski has been the biggest piece missing from the Patriots offense and with players like Wes Welker and Aaron Hernandez gone, others like Danny Amendola and Shane Vereen have dealt with injuries and are out of action.

Gronkowski is one of the top targets for Brady in the offense and the team has struggled to score points without him in the lineup. Brady was visibly frustrated last week against the Bills, as rookie receivers Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins dropped numerous passes and having a veteran like Gronkowski in the lineup could help with all of that. Brady has done a good job connecting with Julian Edelman over the past two games, but he has been the only consistent threat for the team and despite getting two wins, neither Brady or head coach Bill Belichick is happy with how the offense has played.

Brady threw for 185 yards and a touchdown on Thursday against the Jets and put up 288 yards and two touchdowns against the Bills and he could have a nice day with Gronk back, considering the Bucs had the worst passing defense last season. The Patriots have not been as efficient on offense as they were last season through two games and Brady has spoken about his absence from the offense.

ESPN.com, is reporting that Gronkowski could be a 50-50 decision to play on Sunday and he could be a huge help, especially for fantasy owners relying on his production. Last season Gronkowski gained 790 yards on 55 catches and he led the team will 11 touchdowns despite missing time and he could be a number one option for Brady once he gets back on the field.

He is a matchup nightmare and after the way the Bucs played against the Jets and the Saints, giving up a huge game to Jimmy Graham, fantasy owners are hoping he can get on the field. Gronkowski is a prime touchdown threat and he is almost guaranteed to score a TD if he starts on Sunday.
